Powerful Personal Essays

This month’s creative prompt:

If you’re a high school senior, you may be getting started on (or finishing up) personal statements. Even if you don’t have college applications due soon, the personal essay is a great medium for developing your voice as a writer. Try drafting a short nonfiction essay (650 words) that focuses in on an important moment, theme, or educational experience in your life. For inspiration, check out this year’s Common App essay prompts, or read winning essays from Filament’s previous College Essay Contest.

Submissions are now open for Issue 6. When you’re done, consider submitting your work to Zinc’s World Mythology Contest!
