Feel

by Emelynn Miller

Every day, I and billions of other people from around the world feel suffocated by societal expectations. Where you live, how you fit in with the norm, and even something as insignificant as the shape and color of your body can change how people interpret what you say. With only a 4-piece charcoal set from a few years ago and a mechanical pencil from under my desk at my disposal, I set out to make a piece that would be a visual representation of how it feels. One can’t even show their feelings without society putting their own spin on it or censoring what is uncomfortable. I hope to continue to create pieces like this to make people aware of “unseen” things that young people today deal with on the daily.
