Hanging by a Thread

This piece was composed over the summer. I was inspired to make it because I wanted to try something new and I felt that my previous art was getting repetitive. I did research on different art styles and I was fascinated by things that were a bit out of the ordinary. From my research I was intrigued by the idea of putting a twist on childlike wonder. This is popular in some horror movies and it's effective in getting the viewers attention. It takes something the viewer is familiar with and uses that to make the setting uneasy. This piece isn't specifically scary, but it was very different from what I had usually drawn. My research also involved finding different dolls from various time periods and figuring out which one seemed like a good fit to recreate. The doll I’ve drawn is less modern with the porcelain skin along with her hair and clothes. The cracks in her skin represent the idea that she is very worn and not new. It was a good step in the right direction for my current art style.
