Sun and Moon
by Niki Mackenzie Francy
One day, as gloomy swirls of clouds rolled into the valley, the forest fell silent; a routine that the sun had been too fond of.
The trees' cold breeze was all that could be heard. Whistling leaves pass by in clusters, branches and twigs swing back and forth, and no more than one or two birds can be seen soaring through the sky.
The creek's crystal clear water flows gently through the cracks of the Earth, thirsty critters drinking upon it, although most of them have gone into hiding by now. Darkness creeps upon these humble beings, preparing for the Lunar’s appearance.
A sly fox moves through the twisting path, a rhythmic pattern that piques the sun's interest. Crunch… Crunch… Crunch…
“How interesting,” the sun says, beaming brightly. “It is a shame that I have to leave so soon.” It looks away from the mystical forest below, huffing out a long sigh.
“Another rotation down, many more to go before I can once again convey my beautiful rays in full.”
The thought brought tears to its flaming eyes, anticipating the moment when the forest may see a powerful sunshine once more.
But, alas, the sun's counterpart, Lunar, crept its dark arms around the globe, and with thundering clouds in hand, restarted the everlasting cycle.
