Color Bounce
by Sarah Ng
I created this still-life piece during my sophomore year of high school, and it was my first oil painting that I composed. My inspiration for this painting came from a desire to explore the interplay between various colors and values in artwork. For this still-life piece, I created a reference by assembling different objects and placing them against pieces of construction paper. I shined a lamp over the subject matter in order to add more color value and vibrance. While painting, I continuously referenced my backdrop that I set up beside my artwork. In my painting, I experimented with the way in which different shades of color, highlights, and gradients are able to bring a piece of artwork to life.
