Grandma

by Chimnonso Zoe Umeh

Artist Statement:

I’ve always wanted to convey emotion and understanding through intentional uses of color. This portrait was created as an illustration and embodiment of my grandmother’s character and warmth. I created this piece a year after her passing, from Multiple Myeloma, for my mother as a way to commend her strength and resilience during a painful grieving period. Although my grandmother has passed, she left a colorful and substantial mark in the lives of my family members and those around her.
